Sockeye, Sockeye and more Sockeye

- August 24, 2010

Sockeye have been a very good fishery over the last two weeks and currently there is no end in sight. Test fisheries to the north west of us have never seen as many sockeye as they have this last week. Anglers have done quite well using red flashers with 22-24” long leaders to a small sparse pink or red hoochie.  If you don’t find yourself in the midst of a school of jumping sockeye go deep to 90 to 120 feet.  As soon as you are getting near the jumping fish bring your gear up to 50 – 60 feet.  This worked for me I hope it works for you.

Chinook have been doing very well the last couple of weeks as well fish in the 30’s have been brought in to the scale over the past week.  If you want to concentrate on the big springs, rig yourself up with anchovies for best results.  Fish heads like the Bloody Nose and Green Glow.  If you would like to multi-task, put down a red head on an anchovy and you will have a good chance at springs and Sockeye.  Lots of Chinook anglers have been catching their fair share of Sockeye this way.

Halibut

This coming weekend there are some great looking Hali tides.  As always I recommend using x-10 and white glow Terminal tackle for best results. Herring, mackerel, octopus and squid are all good “flavour enhancers” to entice the Hail’s your way.

Good luck

Remember to drop by and grab a coffee and a sandwich at our new Coffee House on your way out.  Fresh fishn’ tips are always available.
