Wow, what a summer. That was some tough fishing. This September fishing has seen a marked improvement. Lots of feeder Springs are being found with the odd big’un thrown into the mix. Kelly N. got himself a 42 lb. Chinook off the Bedfords on Sunday the 14th evening and Laurence got a beauty 27 pounder in the bay last night. Halibut fishing has been great this year and we all hope it continues.
Most of the fish being landed are the small feeders and the feed they have in them is 3” herring. It would be worth fishing a cop car coyote or a green ghost hootchie. Flashers that have been working have been the green coloured ones. Try the Gold Betsy and the green hazer flashers. If you are going to target the feeders pick your speed up a bit and you will be in the market for Chinook and Coho.
Speaking of Coho, Justin Wilson of Tailspin Charters released an nice 18 lb. wild Coho today. This is not the first I have heard of some nice sized Coho in the area so don’t neglect the opportunity.
As mentioned the halibut fishery has been very good to us this year. Lets hope we some continued production. Opportunities for hali fishing in the future are as follows.
