Well everyone its just about that time again where all the kids head off to learn and Dad gets one last month or two of fishing. Fishing overall has improved a lot since my last report, we’re seeing good size Springs from the kelp bed, the Deep hole, Church Rock, and the Bedfords. With the late afternoon floods that will finish off August and take us into the start of September the after work fishing crew should have a hay day.
Sockeye closed to recreational fishing as of August 28th, but too off set that, limits of Pinks have started to become commonplace if you go out to the 4th or 5th tide line. Most boaters are going out past the Race, up to Church Rock, or on to the Head and hanging a left out towards the shipping lanes.
Remember you Coho enthusiasts: as of October 1st retention on Coho changes from 2 hatchery a day to 1 wild and 1 hatchery. Come on you Fall “Northerns”— let’s get it on!
Thank you to all the volunteer skippers, ground crew, and the executive for a job well done again on the Pink Salmon Festival I’ve heard nothing but compliments on how it was handled and how much fun the kids had.
Watch for halibut tides on:
- September 5th thru to the 10th
- September 12th thru to the 16th
- September 22nd thru to the 30th
During the mid day while you’re at it try the kelp beds for big Springs on the way in.
