October 20th 2010
Winter springs have arrived and will only be coming in higher numbers now. The most success has been out in deep waters off of Whirl Bay. Fish deep, the most success has been in between 170 and 225 feet.
Dan and Marion of Salmon Safaris brought in a nice 13lb. Coho yesterday along with two winter springs showing that Coho are still around. Try using the same gear as the winter springs for these “teenage” Chinook and the Coho. It means you’ll be trolling a bit faster than you would in the summer but it also means you can fish for both species at the same time.
Unfortunately, the halibut fishery is now closed until the 1st February, 2011. Keep an eye out in January 2011 for updates and when the best currents will be in February. Remember to store your reels with the drags loose to make sure the drag springs don’t keep a memory while being compressed. This will greatly diminish the effectiveness of your favorite halibut reel. The store will be fully stocked with supplies for when the fishery re-opens.
There are still a couple of weekends left in October for camping at the RV Resort. Bring your rig and get on out the water while the weather is spectacular and the salmon fishing is still good.
Remember to drop by for a coffee,
