Coho are starting to found in numbers. Keep an eye open for the regulations to change allowing the wild fish to be retained.
Feeder springs are being found outside of the bay over at Church Rock. Anchovies have been the most productive bait for both the Chinook and the Coho.
Don’t forget that Rock fish and lingcod are closed as of October 1st. They will re-open again in the spring.
Halibut fishing has not been the major focus as of late. There have been a few nice ones brought in this month. Try your favorite spots or if you are new to the sport as a rule of thumb, look for a sand gravel bottom hopefully near a drop off. Fish the backside of a rise as the fish will sit out of the current and wait for the food to drop out of the faster flowing water.
In the RV Resort, the Rocky Point Bird Observatory is going to be offering a BBQ, slide show and banding demonstration on October 2nd. If you are interested in joining in and learning about the local birds and what the RPBO is doing, please get in contact with Ann Nightingale by email at motmot@shaw.ca.
If you are considering booking a site in the RV Resort for Thanksgiving weekend, please call soon as sites are booking fast. Bring a group out, after all Thanksgiving is all about friends and family.
While you are out at the RV Resort, don’t hesitate to come down and get a fish report and find out who is at Race Rocks lately. The California and Stellar sea lions may be in and Coho and winter spring fishing should be in good shape this season.
Looking forward to seeing you here soon,
