April was a great month!! As predicted the fish are getting bigger the two major highlights are Steve Dainard’s 162 lb Halibut and Chris Naylor’s 28+ lb Chinook caught in Pedder Bay!!!
The monster halibut had been feeding on large crabs and the spring evidently quite hungry had taken a few large herring and a small cod before taking Chris’s offering on anchovy. That fish was not very particular about its food apparently.
Upcoming in May is the “Just for the Halibut Derby” on the 12th and 13th weekend. Tickets are available here at Pedder Bay and of Course at Island Outfitters.
A heads up for those that do not have their PCOC cards yet: there are suggestions that the rules surrounding how and where one can take the test are going to be changing. These rules will not make getting this certification any easier assuredly. If you do not already have your card I would suggest getting it do sooner than later before you will have to sit in class room on a scheduled day as opposed to doing the test “on line”. Type in PCOC in “Google” to find a web site that you can earn you certification from as soon as you can.
