March Word on the Dock

- March 3, 2008

Another season is upon us! Halibut has started well already with several coming in on the first weekend of the season. The tides weren’t perfect for the halis so when they are look out we are in for some good hali fishing. A reminder that the daily limit for halibut is 1 until to May 31st. Early in the season halibut can be found closer to shore in shallower water. The reason for this is because the fish are predating on freshly molted crabs.

Winter Springs are being found all around Pedder Bay. Fish up to 15 pounds can be found in the area. The Springs can be found near the bottom. Use anchovies and small herring in heads. For hardware try the tried-and-true purple haze, Cop Car/Night Rider Coyote spoons and the purple haze flashers.

Keep a keen eye on the salmon regulations this year. It looks like we are in for some changes. More to come on this topic when changes are announced.
