March Update

- March 1, 2007

February was a good month to be on the water but boy did it go by fast.

A quick review:

  • Biggest halibut was Bruce Miller 35 lbs.
  • Biggest Spring was Bob Dalziel 21 lbs. in Whirl Bay.

Just in front of the can buoy in Pedder Bay has been doing very well for the Springs and Whirl Bay when fisherman could get out there.

Looking ahead of course we hope the weather is going to get better and warmer as we go. The days will be getting progressively longer as well.

Halibut fishing has been open now for a month and it seems to be a little slow so far. We of course are hoping for better performance from ol’ Mother Nature.

Looking ahead the halibut tides that look promising are as follows,

1st
All morning until about 2 o’clock
2nd
Again all morning till about three
3rd
All morning until about 4
7th
There is a tide that looks OK for some hali fishing it might be a little fast.
On the 15th 16th and 17th
Again we have some good to fair tides for the halibut.

That last four days of the month also look promising for the halibut fishermen again the morning tide appears to be the prime time.

All fishermen should keep in mind that these tides can be very productive for the salmon fishing as well. Lets hope the local spots stay as productive as they have been in the last couple of months. Remember to drop by and give us a report on how this fishing has been for you.
