The recent good tides and better weather have provided some excellent fishing out of Pedder Bay and just in time for the 15th Annual "Just for the Halibut" Derby that will be taking place this weekend in Juan de Fuca Strait. With a first prize of $7,500.000 for the largest halibut weighed in over the weekend, and a special bonus prize of $20,000.00 for the first halibut over 202 lbs (the previous largest fish!) there is a lot of buzz on the water right now, especially as a few big ones are already getting weighed in.
Salmon have also remained strong with good numbers of fish in the 10 to 20 lb range being caught by folks who venture away form the halibut grounds.
