June Fishing Report

- June 1, 2007

Vancouver Island halibut fishingSprings and halis abound in the Pedder Bay Area. Recently we have some great halibut fishing with Bennie’s 175 lb. fish being the largest of the season so far. Halibut can be found in all the usual spots.

Chinook fishing has also been ok. The great part about the Chinook is: as every week goes by the fish seem to get bigger and in greater numbers. We are now getting fairly consistent reports of fish in the high twenties and some in the thirties coming in of Church Rock, Beachy Head, Christopher Point, Whirl bay and other “fishy” spots.

In fact right in Pedder Bay there is good fishing to be had. Just because its summer does not mean we should stop fishing those productive winter holes. The fish were there because that is where the feed was. The feed is still there and people “in the know” still fish those spots. Spots like the Navy Buoy, Leaning Arbutis, Cape Calver, and so on are still productive. Give them a try if the weather is holding you back from getting to those other “Summer spots”

For halibut tides this month you can expect the following:

  • June 8th has some small tides all day
  • June 9th nice flat tidal action all day
  • June 10th between noon and 6pm a very small ebb
  • June 11th between noon and 6pm a non-existent ebb
  • From the 12th the 20th there is allot of tidal action predicted
  • June 21st through to the 25th great hali tides all day

Unfortunately there are big tides for the rest of the week. Let’s hope that these big tides bring fresh batches of salmon.

Tight lines everyone,
