With several days of good halibut tides over the next few days, action is already heating up in local waters. Gord Gavin of Sea Ghost Charters (250-478-0790) was kind enough to treat some Pedder Bay crew to a fishing trip this morning and the photo below is proof of two things:
1. Gordy really knows his stuff if he can coach David in to landing a nice halibut.
2. The bite is on as the boys reported several missed hits plus the three nice chickens boated in just a few hours!
If you want the best in guided salmon and halibut action, give Gord a call. If you want to try a do-it-yourself option, remember that we have a fleet comfortable, affordable, well equipped rental boats here at Pedder Bay just waiting to get you out on the water for a great fishing adventure.
June is typically a great month for halibut and salmon fishing in Juan de Fuca Strait, and 2011 is proving to be no exception. Good numbers of decent sized marked Chinook up to 20+ pounds are hitting the docks as well as reports of some larger wild fish being released on a daily basis.

The regulations for Chinook will permit the retention of one wild fish of any size starting on June 17th so sharpen those hooks and get ready for what is looking like a fantastic year for slabs.
Coho opened June 1st to retention of 2 hatchery fish per day, and if last year is any indicator, we should have some great action for these scrappy devils out in the tide lines starting in the next month or so.
Rockfish and Ling Cod also opened up June 1st with bag limits of 1 each per day. Remember that ling cod have a minimum size limit of 65 cm in our area, so check before you bonk!
The Juan de Fuca Invitational Salmon Derby will be using Pedder Bay as a weigh-in station and key focal point for the 2011 derby which takes place June 17 - 19, 2011. If you're in the derby remember to call in advance to reserve your RV spot. With our Pedder Bay Derby Special offering free temproary moorage with 2 nights RV site booking on the derby dates, we are filling up fast. Be first on the water, avoid the launch ramp adventures and have a great time camping and fishing while taking advantage of this great offer!
Along with our recent weather, the fishing action has been heating up nicely. Head on down to Pedder Bay or give us a call at 1-877-478-1771 for today's fishing report, or to book your campsite.
Tight lines and sunny skies...
Your Friendly Crew at Pedder Bay.
