August Tides and Events

- August 10, 2005

Hey gang; sorry it’s been so long but until recently there really hasn’t been much to report. Oh well enough whining about it let’s get going.

First off if any of you are still interested in helping out with (The Pink Salmon Festival) which takes underprivileged kids out fishing please go to http://www.pinksalmonfestival.ca/ to find out more info. The event is being held August 21st, 2005 so time to register your boat is running out. On behalf of the kids – thank you – and thanks to all already registered.

Salmon fishing

Salmon fishing really hasn’t taken off any more than it was in July. The biggest difference we’ve seen is from the boats that go 2-3 miles out into the strait and fish at depths of 90 to 120 feet. Working out off shore has seemed to produce more fish than in the past years (when we able to fish in close and the depths were around 40 to 60 feet).

Pedder Bay has produced some decent Springs on the flood tide and high slack other wise most Springs have come from around Church and the Bedfords or the Trap Shack to Secretary Island area. Most big fish have been caught on bait but a few have been taken on Coyote spoons and some different blends of hootchies like Purple Haze and the old reliable glow Army Truck.

What we need to do is summon the clouds from where ever they are and demand they drop 2 solid days of rain on Pedder Bay then we’d see a party break out. I swear it would be fish heaven in the Kelp beds and on the Wall.

Well good luck to all in the mean time and keep hoping for rain.

Now lets look at your second favorite hobby – HALIBUT!!!!

Halibut fishing

Your first good batch of tides was the 9th and 10th, you get a cardiac tide all day on the 11th, a nice slow dawn till dusk flood on the 12th will work, and then early at dawn on the 13th and close to dinner on the same day.

Your next set of tides starts on the 23rd around 9:00am and continuing thru until 2:00 in the afternoon, the 24th is a 6:00am thru to 3:00pm, dawn till 3:30 pm on the 25th. And to finish off the month you have you have some big long lows in the mornings of 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st.

Good luck to all in the “BITE ME DERBY”

Remember... tight lines, and rod tips up
