Reel Reports
December Word on the Dock
Pedder Bay RV Resort & Marina - December 9, 2009Salmon
Winter Springs are doing really well right now. Generally the keepers are about 4 lbs. as a minimum… but there are some fish being taken up to 20lbs! and many in the 8 to 12 lb range. Fish are taking the usual winter gear such as Purple Haze Squirts, Cop Car Coyotes and Glow Bellow Squits. Try flashers with Glow on them like the Super Betsy, and the Crushed Jelly Fish. Despite the seemingly cold temperatures I am getting reports of T-shirt days on the water; must be all the reflected sun.
Regulations for salmon are two per day per license. Minimum size is 45cm or 18.5”
Halibut
The halibut fishery will remain open until December 31, 2009. After that we do not know when we will see an opening again (some time in the Spring). All the following info is taken from pg. 67 of the volume 5 edition of the tides and currents book produced by the Canadian Hydrographic Service.
From the 11th all the way to the end of the month have great tides. Refer to the above mentioned pages for accurate times. As a rough guide most mornings are the prime tides.
Docks
The project to put power and water on the docks is well underway. We are expecting the full new power system will be up and running as of the end of January. Water lines are being installed now but we will reserve the commissioning of that system until the water stops becoming stiff (some time near the end of March). We are all looking forward to the new upgrades for the marina.
RV Resort
Reservations are still being made for the coming season. We will be open March 1st this year and will remain open until October 31st. By early spring all the hard work that was done last summer will truly be complete with all the grasses and flowers blooming. Ash Point will be a sight to see.
See you soon, and have a great Holiday Season,
Richard and the Crew
